Ferguson’s motto is “Proud Past. Promising Future!”. Ferguson elected its first Black and first female mayor, Ella Jones, on June 2, 2020. She serves as the 12th mayor of Ferguson, Missouri.
Mayor Jones was the first African American elected to the Ferguson City Council. Ella Jones is the first African American and woman elected mayor in the city’s 126 year history. She assumed office on June 17, 2020.
Mayor Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry from the University of Missouri–St. Louis. She is also a pastor in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Ferguson is home to the headquarters of Emerson Electric, an American multinational corporation. St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley, which has about 8,000 students is also located in Ferguson.
Ferguson has an evolving and favorable commercial environment in which local residents can own and operate their own local businesses. The city has championed open government and local economic development.
